It’s no secret that Navy SEALs use a number of different forms of equipment to help them through all of their missions. What may not be realized is the fact that all of this equipment is divided up into different categories, or “lines.” The lines are determined based on the importance that they give to any SEAL in the field. The first line is considered the essential elements needed for survival in the field. It includes battle gear, weaponry, a compass, MREs, maps, a dummy cord, and a few other items. The idea is that, should a SEAL have to ditch their other gear, this first line will give them everything they need to survive.
