In past articles in this series we covered how to tie a square knot, a bowline knot, and a clove hitch knot. The fourth knot to be covered in the “Five Knots Of The Navy SEALs” series is the “right angle knot”. This knot is very basic and if you know how to tie the clove hitch then you already know how to tie the right-angle knot.

In this series, “Five Knots Of The Navy SEALs” we have already covered how to successfully tie both a square knot and a bowline knot. It is recommended that you learn how to tie both of those knots before moving on to the clove hitch. However, as a Navy SEAL you will need to be able to effectively tie all three of these knots.

In part 2 of this series “Five Knots Of The Navy SEALs” we covered how to properly tie a square knot. If you have not mastered the square knot, you should review that article. Learning how to tie a square knot will help you learn how to tie a bowline knot more effectively.

The square knot is by and far the easiest knot that Navy SEALs learn how to tie. This is due to the fact that all Navy SEAL candidates will already have the basis of how to tie this knot embedded in their brains. This is because a square knot is much like the knot you make when you learned how to tie your shoes. If you can successfully tie a square knot, then you will be more apt to be able to learn how to tie all other knots.

There are many skills that all Navy SEAL candidates must master during their training. One such skill is that of knot tying. All Navy SEALs are required to learn 5 specific knots. During their training they are taught how to tie each of these knots, however, it is recommended that anyone who is considering becoming a Navy SEAL, to begin learning these five knots in advance. The more skilled that you are at effectively tying these knots the more apt you are to excel at this part of your training.
