A fleetwide message, NAVADMIN 169/12 on May 30, shared the release of an iPhone fitness app. The app was released by the Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling Series in April, and as of end of May, has since been downloaded nearly 5,500 times.
Through the app, Sailors are able to access the library of exercises of the Navy Operational Fitness and Refueling Series, as well as their workout routines and meal planning, even while they are serving at sea.
Lisa Sexauer, program manager for fitness, sports, and deployed forces support at Navy Installations Command, shared that even if the app was released fairly recently, it has received “overwhelmingly positive” feedback from Sailors, and has been rated 4.5 out of 5 stars by iTunes users.
Sexauer shared: “They like the food choice features and the fact that there are videos so they can refine their own movement efficiencies… the app is actually housed on the device. When you head to the gym, by selecting your parameters, your entire workout is available to you.”
Once the app has been downloaded to the iPhon, the videos may be accessed even in the absence of cellphones or an active Internet connection.
Sexauer shared further that the exercises are in line with the 21st Century Sailor and Marine wellness initiative.
