Six military Veterans were honored by the Navy Memorial on Thursday, during the 24th Annual Lone Sailor Awards dinner, held at the National Building Museum in Washington.
This year’s awardees are Lloyd “Beau” Bridges III, Jeff Bridges, Lloyd Bridges, Brian Lamb, Jerry Coleman and Bob Feller. Beau Bridges, Brian Lamb, and Jerry Coleman were present during the ceremony to personally receive their awards. Beau Bridges also received the Lone Sailor awards of his late father, Lloyd, and his younger brother, Jeff.

The Lone Sailor Award is given in recognition of Veterans who excelled in their civilian careers, while continuing to embody military values. To date, 73 Navy and Marine Corps Veterans have received the Lone Sailor Award.
Actor, producer, and director Beau Bridges received recognition for his accomplishments as a civilian, after having served in both active and Reserve duties with the United States Coast Guard. Lamb, on the other hand, received recognition for his service as a naval officer, and as the founder of C-SPAN, while Coleman was recognized for the 120 missions that the Major League Baseball player flew as an aviator, as well as his devotion to the Marine Corps.
Adm. Mark Ferguson, Vice Chief of Naval Operations, said: “This event allows the Navy Memorial Foundation, and the entire Navy, the opportunity to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the maritime services and our nation.”
Beau Bridges shared: “My motto in the Coast Guard was Semper Paratus, which means “always ready.” That is something that I have carried with me my whole life… I also learned how important respect is; respecting yourself, respecting your mates, respecting the authorities that are training you and getting you ready … these are all qualities that I have tried to pass on to my children and carry on for myself and my life.”
