The Lt. Dan Band, which includes actor Gary Sinise, performed for service members, personnel of the Department of Defense, civilians, and their families, at the parade field on Naval Base Kitsap (NBK), on July 5.
The free concert, according to the Navy website, was part of a two-day tour in the Pacific Northwest. The United Service Organization (USO) concert kicked off at Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s Freedom Fest, and ended with the concert at NBK, which was attended by more than a thousand DoD personnel, civilians, and their families. It featured various music genres as played by the band, who urged Sailors as well as their families to sing or dance along to the music.
Donald Leingang, retired Navy commander and executive director of USO Puget Sound, shared: “Gary [and his band] play over 40 concerts a year… This is the first time in about six to seven years that he has been in the United States on the Fourth of July. We are very fortunate to the fact that he is here.”
Engineman 3rd Class Abraham Rodarte of USS Nimitz was serenaded by Lt. Dan Band vocalist Julie Dutchak, who called him onstage and sang a cover of “Natural Women.” Rodarte shared: “It was awesome that I was able to be on stage and see everybody in the crowd… It means a lot that Gary Sinise and his band take a part of their own time to perform a free concert for service members. As a Sailor, I appreciate that they came out.”
