Another Midshipman Expelled Due to Spice!

Posted February 25th, 2011 by USNavySeals

The crackdown on the use and possession of the designer drug Spice in the Naval Academy continues, and a feature on the Navy Times shared that a plebe in the Academy has become the 8th midshipman to face expulsion due to charges related to synthetic marijuana.

SpiceAcademy spokeswoman Deborah Goode did not provide specific details regarding the student or the progress of the ongoing investigation that began last fall, beyond saying that the recently-expelled student was a freshman.

Superintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller gave the following statement: “USNA has a ‘zero tolerance’ drug use policy. Spice in particular has a devastating effect on students who need to study and retain knowledge… While the Navy is rapidly improving its detection methods, confirming spice use typically requires extensive investigation and corroborating evidence.”
