First it was Rep. Dan Burton, a known supporter of the SEALs who have been slapped with assault charges, who expressed that a trial is not what Navy SEALs Julio Huertas, Jonathan Keefe and Matthew McCabe deserved. In the wake of the exoneration of Navy SEAL Jonathan Keefe, yet another member of the House is calling for the dropping of charges against the remaining SEALs.

In the article, Jonathan Keefe has not yet been exonerated of the charges against him, so Rep. Tom Rooney was also calling for the dismissal of charges against both Matthew McCabe and Jonathan Keefe. Rooney said: “We should give them the support they need to complete their dangerous missions, not court-martial them based on flimsy evidence.”

Indeed, the evidence presented by the U.S. Central Command has not been enough to convince both a military jury and a judge. “Star” witness Ahmed Hashim Abed did not have physical evidence of bruises to support his recollection of his ordeal, while the testimony of Petty Officer Kevin DeMartino was rebutted by four other trial witnesses.

McCabe’s attorney Neal Puckett told Human Events that “The combination of Abed the terrorist and Petty Officer DeMartino was not believed by the jury,” adding that for the trial of his client, he has eight witnesses “I have eight witnesses who will completely rebut what DeMartino said. DeMartino says people did this and that. We have the people denying this…. He is also the individual solely responsible for Abed at all times, for safety of detainee, and we can prove he left his post.”
