We received an e-mail update from Josh Irving of SupportOurSEALs.com on Wednesday, containing updates regarding the cases of the three Navy SEALs slapped with assault charges. Monday, April 19, marked the beginning of the trial of Navy SEAL Julio Huertas, while Navy SEAL Jonathan Keefe’s trial is set for Thursday the 22nd. Both trials are being conducted in Camp Victory, Baghdad, Iraq.
We will have to share Irving’s statement in the e-mail, which very much echoes our sentiments about the proceedings that are under way: “I don’t know about the rest of the American people, but sending our soldiers to Iraq to stand trial seems like a waste of money and resources to say the absolute very least.”
It is still all systems go for a May 3rd “Support Our SEALs” Rally in Norfolk, Virginia, outside Naval Station Norfolk, where Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe’s trial will be held. Irving says it will be all systems go for as long as the SEALs are not exonerated before that date; if it indeed comes to that, those who are behind the SEALs are invited to show their support on that day. Those who are interested in participating are invited to RSVP for the event through the Support Our SEALs Facebook page. You can also follow the latest from Support Our SEALs via Twitter.
What if you and your friends are halfway across the country and cannot be in Norfolk, but would like to show your support nonetheless and have a rally where you are? You can be one with the “Support Our SEALs” rally in Virginia by simply letting them know about your intentions; they will set up a Facebook event for you and send this out to their Facebook and website members.
Supporters are also encouraged to patronize items that declare SEAL support from sponsors who donate profits towards the SEAL Defense Fund, such as the Support Our SEALs shirts; these can turn into conversation pieces that will become opportunities for you to further spread the cause of our SEALs.
