The Navy SEAL Trident Tradition During A Comrade’s Funeral

We found an interesting “fact-check” article by Carole Fader at The Florida Times-Union – Jacksonville website that we thought is worth sharing with you. It involves an e-mail with a photo of a trident-riddled casket that has been making the rounds in the Internet, a casket that is said to be Medal of Honor recipient Michael Monsoor’s.

Navy SEAL tridentsThere are, after all, an untold number of e-mails circulating on the web, claiming stories of courage and heroism. While we would like to give due recognition to those who deserve it, it is reasonable to try and ensure that the things that we are hearing about are true, so that recognition only goes to the true heroes.

The photo, apparently, has been used in more than one e-mail thread and may have been taken at the funeral of another SEAL. Snopes.com, a website that confirms or discredits urban legends, indicated that it is not clear whether the photo of the casket with tridents lined up rather nicely was actually taken during the funeral service for Monsoor.

Whether it was, indeed, Monsoor’s casket or not may not be all that relevant; the more important thing to notice is the brotherhood of the SEALs and how they pay tribute to a fallen comrade.

There are confirmed reports that such a tribute was, indeed, done at Monsoor’s funeral. A video of the tribute being performed during his burial is said to be on YouTube. It showed the Monsoor’s casket as standing stationary as SEALs placed their tridents on his casket and pounded these into the wood.

I love this showing of care, respect and honor. I talked with a person regarding this and she said to me…..’you know what Pastor G says about that and puzzled I said ‘what’?! And she said Let the dead bury their dead…..’what’”! really”! I believe that meant the dead in Jesus Christ! I was offended by that statement she made…….she thought really way out there and her mentality is horribly distorted! I really know that if you can’t honor someone who once lived and have a deadness inside to have that kind of care then you can’t be of use by anybody to help other out. I know that as a caregiver I must honor, care about and love everyone regardless of ‘what’ or ‘who’ they are………..God Bless my military soldiers and God Speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
