Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe Passes Polygraph Test!

Posted March 30th, 2010 by USNavySeals

With each passing day it seems like the charges leveled against Navy SEALs Matthew McCabe, Julio Huertas and Jonathan Keefe are unraveling at the seams.

In previous posts, we shared with you how Cmdr. Tierney Carlos ordered the granting of immunity for five of McCabe, Huertas and Keefe’s SEAL comrades who will serve as witnesses to the case, as well as the exclusion of a statement made by Keefe which may lead to the dropping of one of the cases against him. Maj. Gen. Charles Cleveland has since signed grants of immunity for the SEAL witnesses.

McCabeDuring a fundraiser organized by SupportTheSeals.org at the Silverleaf Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe himself announced that he has successfully passed a polygraph test. In short, technology has spoken and given its two cents – a two cents that is difficult, if impossible, to refute.

Matthew McCabe attended the fundraising luncheon and addressed the participants. “We (McCabe and his two fellow SEALs) have known this from the start,” McCabe began. “We are getting accused of… lying,” he said, and continued: “as of March 16, I did take a professional polygraph, and I passed.” USNavySealStore.com was one of the sponsors of the event.

The polygraph test that McCabe underwent included being asked whether he did punch Abed or lied about it. A post by Michelle Odis on Human Events shares a comment from Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona, who was present at the event: “while the lie detector test results won’t be admissible in a court of law and their jury will never know that he passed, it is nonetheless important for the American public to know.”

I take no position regarding the merits of the case against the three accused Navy SEALs, but lie detector results are simply not to be relied upon.

Polygraphy has long been discredited as a pseudoscientific sham. The procedure has no scientific basis, and while it’s inherently biased against the truthful, the deceptive can pass using simple countermeasures.

Moreover, in situations like this one, where a defendant stands accused of a crime, he can take as many polygraphs as he likes under terms of attorney-client privilege and only announce the results of a passed polygraph, while keeping any failed polygraphs secret.

Thus, McCabe’s polygraph results are of no evidentiary value whatsoever and should be given no weight–whether inside the courtroom or out.

It makes no difference to me. I highly question the credibility of our enemies. I don’t question the credibility of these Navy SEALS. They are doing a job and I appreciate it.

Thank you for all you do!

Any person that puts any value to a polygraph knows nothing about interrogation of subjects. The polygraph is nothing more than an interrogation prop. And if added to/with the Reid method of interrogation, it becomes a potent tool in an investigators arsenal when used on the naive and stupid. These individual will believe the device really works, and from experience I know that all special ops types go through counter-interrogation training. The polygraph and its other assorted instances like voice stress and anything else masquerading as a lie detector are of no consequence if duly trained. Stay away from anything on how to beat the polygraph as once you know its a con, the sympathetic arousal and release of adrenals doesn’t happen. Just the way I see see it.

I find it interesting so many people are so willing to jump on the bandwagon to support these guys when they conspired amongst each other to frame a fellow servicemember for an something they did. The media and this blog make it out to be a case about punching this guy,,,thats not it at all, its that they tried to frame the poor MA that wasnt on the “Team” and let him go down for what they did.

I support each and every one of these Navy Seals ..I am disgusted that this administration has allowed this to happen to these men …They should be getting medals not a trisl………..

He ought not have had to take a polygraph test in the first place. This is BS to prosecute this man. We are in a WAR and things get rough in wars. What he did, if in fact he did, is damn well OK with me!
