A Navy SEAL’s Key to Survival: KFC!

Posted March 15th, 2010 by USNavySeals

With all the serious things that are going on around us, with the danger of terrorists blowing up planes and earthquakes that come out of nowhere, it is easy to feel caught up, anxious and frustrated. In times like these, it can help to read up on a little bit of comedy – and we found an interesting one that supposedly involved a SEAL in a post on Zoiks! Online.

When the going gets tough, we each draw from a unique “reserve” to get us through whatever. For some, it may be a loving memory; other people can always retreat to a certain “happy place”. And others turn to gastronomical treats – as this one Navy SEAL who shall remain unnamed said.

KFC bucket of chickenComedian BT said that he has a friend who is in the Navy SEALs. He wrote about asking this friend, whom he described as “the baddest of the bad, the elite of the elite”: “What got you thru that strenuous training that has claimed so many “would be” SEALs?”

There will always be unique answers to this question, depending on who you ask. But we just love this particular SEAL’s answer, which starts out with: “First of all, you have to remember that pain is only temporary. That in itself helps big time and the other thing is to place yourself ‘mentally’ what you want to be doing or where you ‘want to be.’”

That is an expected answer, nothing unique about that; but he follows it up with: B.T. I’m not gonna lie. The one thing I always thought about mentally was – and if I’m lying I’m dying – KFC!”

Well, we will have to agree that there’s nothing like a bucket of Colonel’s chicken to brighten anyone’s day – including a SEAL’s!

Thanks to BT for sharing this story… there is after all more to SEALs than clandestine missions and grueling trainings!
