A Wounded Warriors Hiring and Support Conference, the first of its kind in the National Capital Region, was held in Alexandria, Virginia on February 2 to 3. The event was hosted by the assistant secretary of the Navy Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Juan Garcia, and the Naval Sea Systems Command and gathered more than six hundred participants.
Among the goals of the conference was to understand the challenges that wounded warriors face as they start to pick up the pieces and find employment after suffering from injuries while in the service.
The possibility of sustaining injuries and being rendered disabled is a possibility that service members undoubtedly accept when they choose this challenging career path, despite the fact that no one will want to wish such a situation upon one’s self. For this selfless sacrifice, the least that could be done for those who unfortunately become injured is to provide them with the support that they need.
Vice Adm. Adam Robinson, the Navy Surgeon General, spoke before an audience of approximately four hundred people about the support available to Wounded Warriors. He was quoted with the following statement on the Navy Web site: “The Navy has a long history of taking care of its own and our commitment to our injured Sailors, Marines and their families do not end with their arrival at a medical unit or hospital. It continues through their entire road to recovery. When our people who are in the fight are hurt, we apply all on our training and resources to provide rapid care in partnership with our sister services.”
