We have said it time and again: not everyone has what it takes to become SEALs. But we can get a feel of what that feels like through various virtual media, with SEAL-themed games. According to a press release on PR Newswire, users of the Apple iPhone and the iPod Touch, as well as the soon to be released iPad, will have a new SEAL-inspired game to enjoy.
SEAL Heroes: Pirate Takedown has debuted in the Apple App Store. The game reminds us of the much-publicized role that Navy SEALs played in the rescue of an American ship captain who was held hostage by Somali pirates off the waters of Somalia. The game, however, does not involve a cargo ship but a passenger cruise ship.
The game was reportedly designed with the help of SEAL veterans; beta testing was also conducted using their help, although there was no mention whether the same group of former SEALs helped in the design as well as the testing. The game has been optimized for use in the Apple gadgets mentioned earlier.
A player is given the chance to lead a team of SEALs on a mission to “take down pirates and free hostages on a hijacked cruise ship.” Sales from the game are not all about profits; according to the release, proceeds are being shared with the Naval Special Warfare Foundation, an organization that, among other activities, assists the families of SEALs who were killed in action.
