As we welcome the year 2010, we look back at what has proven to be an interesting year for that elite group of sailors a lot of us look up to: the United States Navy SEALs. While there were a lot of rather disheartening events that we bore witness to in 2009, there were also priceless moments of triumph that will certainly leave indelible marks in our nation’s history. And we definitely look forward to making sure that the stories of our Navy SEAL heroes are given enough attention.
Most of our readers craved for stories of heroism as exemplified by famous Navy SEALs. There were also those who were quite interested in the Navy SEAL equipment that they used as well as the Navy SEAL training that they had to undergo.
We have thus far been so used to stories of Navy SEALs being praised for their courage and patriotism, that we are all taken aback when we heard that three of them were being charged with assault. Since our first post on the issue towards the end of November, we have followed the story of Navy SEALs Matthew McCabe, Julio Huertas and Jonathan Keefe, and have shared with you calls for justice from various sectors.
We were one with the rest of America as we paid tribute and honored those who have, at one time or the other, placed their lives on the line by serving in the United States military as we commemorated Veterans’ Day, and followed the story of Navy SEALs who helped free a captive ship captain off the shores of Somalia. On a more somber note, we also paid tribute to those in the service who lost their lives during a rather tragic incident in Fort Hood, Texas.
