The US Navy SEALs are known to be the best of the best among the US military forces. To promote this image and to help maintain their recruitment rates, the US Navy is known to act as consultants to Hollywood producers who intend to create movies based on the Navy SEALs. This has been effective in making these movies credible and realistic, and has in turn inspired many people to enlist with the Navy SEALs.

Actors who are cast to play roles as Navy SEALs undergo strenuous training in boot camps. Their training is supervised by an actual Marine Chief. They are also encouraged to use their character names on and off camera so that they can fully embody the character they are portraying. Among the top five Hollywood movies produced about the Navy SEALs are: The Frogmen, Tears of the Sun, G.I. Jane, The Rock, and The Navy SEALs.
