Series: Five Knots Of The Navy SEALs – Part 6: Becket Bend Knot

Posted September 28th, 2009 by USNavySeals

In the last four articles of this series, “Five Knots Of The Navy SEALs” we have covered the following knots: the square knot (reef knot), the bowline knot, the clove hitch, and the right-angle knot.  In the final entry in this series we will be covering how to tie what is known as the becket bend knot.

As a Navy SEAL candidate you must learn how to effectively and professionally tie all five of these knots.  You will be required to tie each of these knots underwater, and must master each of them in order to pass SEAL training.

Follow the simple steps outlined below to learn how to successfully tie a becket bend knot.

STEP #1: This knot is usually used when using two ropes of different diameter.  Place these two ropes in front of you.

STEP #2: Create a loop in the thicker rope and hold it with one hand.  Then pass the thinner rope through the loops and round the loop as detailed below.

STEP #3: Go around the short end first and then go around the long end as detailed below.

STEP #4: Finally you will tuck the smaller rope back under itself and this will complete your beckets bend knot as show below.
