All Navy SEALs must have the proper gear, clothing, and weapons necessary in order to carry out their missions. If a Navy SEAL were not to wear the gear and equipment that is specific and built for the climate and terrain of the location they are carrying out a mission, they could put themselves and their platoon in jeopardy. Therefore, all Navy SEALs must familiarize themselves with the many tools at their disposal.
Before heading off on a mission all SEALs are told what gear as far as clothing they are required to wear. This will depend on the climate of the area they will be entering and whether or not they will be required to enter the location via water. Some times this information will be given to the SEALs without ever having their exact destination revealed to them.
Once the mission has been explained the SEALs will determine which weapons they should use for that specific mission. They may use a variety of handguns and shotguns.
Among the most used Navy SEALs weapons are the following: MK23 MOD 0 45 caliber offensive handguns, 9 MM SIG Sauer P226, M4A1 5.56 MM, AK-47, HK MP5 9 MM submachine gun, M-14 sniper rifle, or the M2HB to name a few. In most instances their commanding officer will direct them to which weapons they should bring for their specific mission.
Additionally, all Navy SEALs are required to practice their shooting and aiming skills on a regular basis with a variety of weapons in order to keep fresh and proficient.
