Navy Mom Debbie Lee Reacts to SEAL-Bashing

Posted June 26th, 2009 by USNavySeals

Navy Mom Debbie Lee, mother of the late Marc Allan Lee, the first Navy SEAL casualty in Iraq, wrote a rather passionate article featured on bighollywood.breitbart.com. It was a reaction to, for lack of a better term, SEAL-bashing by mainstream media and Hollywood, reportedly picturing SEALs as murderers and liars – people with questionable character. Even Medal of Honor recipient former Senator J. Robert Kerrey found himself in the middle of a controversy surrounding one of his missions during his service in Vietnam.

Navy SEALsAmong the personalities named by Lee were Harry Reid, who reportedly called SEALs and US troops “losers”; John Murtha, who reportedly called them cold-blooded murderers; and Janet Napolitano, who reportedly released a report that labeled them as “potential terrorists.” Lee proceeded to ask why a group of people who have given, and continue to sacrifice, so much for the country is being dishonored in such a manner.

Debbie reminds everyone of the various sacrifices that US troops make for their country and, by extension, its citizens. She recounted her experiences during a visit to Iraq in December of last year, noting how the US troops have been able to bring a veritable ghost town back to a certain semblance of life.

Lee expressed that she was “deeply hurt” with the way the SEALs are sometimes being portrayed, considering that she lost a beloved son due to his willingness to sacrifice for his country. She extols Hollywood to show their gratitude to troops instead, especially since they have “the ability to influence millions of people.” She requests them to use that influence to “show gratitude”.

Debbie Lee did not generalize the entire industry, though, as she ends her commentary by thanking those from Hollywood who have decided to stand by US troops.
