Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and now may be a good time to feature the hero behind the hero – the Navy Mom. This year, we would like to give the spotlight to Debbie Lee.
We first featured Debbie Lee when we shared the Marc Lee Glory Knife, designed in honor of Debbie’s son Marc Alan Lee, the first Navy SEAL killed in action in Iraq. Debbie Lee (or at least that’s how the person who left the message identified herself) posted a comment on our feature the following day, and invited us to view AmericasMightyWarriors.org to read her son Marc’s last letter home.
Debbie Lee is a Gold Star Mom – a mother who has lost a son or a daughter in the service of America who is a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. Debbie lifted the core of Marc’s final message, and her son’s dream became her dream as well.
In his last letter, Marc spoke of a wish – that Americans support each other through random acts of kindness. A feature on Debbie Lee on NewsBlaze.com recounts her first random act – raising money that she included in a condolence card sent to a fallen soldier’s family. Another anecdote spoke of how Debbie took a wife of a deployed soldier who was battling breast cancer, her daughter and her granddaughter out for Easter dinner. She was also able to provide a marine unit in Camp Lejune with a set of essential EOD power lock tools before their scheduled departure overseas.
Debbie is able to realize her son’s dream of random acts of kindness through America’s Mighty Warriors, a non-profit organization.
Debbie will be spending Mother’s Day with other Gold Star Moms. They will have lunch at the Arizona Biltmore hotel; from there, they will take a limo to a mall where Debbie has organized a sort-of Amazing Race that will lead the moms to stores that have donated special gifts to pamper the moms who have essentially given up a part of themselves for their country. All the moms will also be treated to makeovers. There are plans to take this event to other cities next year, and there are plans in the works for an event on Father’s Day.
To Debbie and all moms who have family in the Armed forces, you are our heroes as well!
