It is already a known fact that the Navy SEALs, despite having to work in the most unusual of environments and situations, carry the latest in technology. These gadgets are heavily used in the performance of their missions and probably one of the things that make them formidable. SEALs are heavily trained physically and mentally, and equipped with the latest gadgetry imaginable.
Until recently, though, heavy-duty laptops were unable to carry dual-screen capability. A Navy SEAL super trooper may receive live video feeds from surveillance drones flying covertly overhead or from robothopter bat-bugs sent and planted discreetly in enemy lines. All this data will be received while working in chest-high snow of the Hindu Kush, or immersed in the muddy Euphrates delta. A twin screen laptop is definitely a must-have item, but there were no waterproof, shockproof and dustproof dual screen laptops in the market – until now.
Towards the end of February, even the ordinary consumers can take advantage of this heavy duty gadget. The Alaskan gScreen G400 dual-screen machine has been refurbished and reinforced to withstand the extreme conditions at which Navy SEALs operate. The era of heavy duty, high quality dual screen mobile computers has arrived.
While us ordinary folks still need to wait till the end of the month to get our hands on the shockproof G400, special customers such as the Armed Forces are way ahead in the queue. The Naval Special Warfare Group 2, based in Little Creek, Virginia, has already expressed an intention to give a contract for ‘Titan M1 Dual Screen Laptop Workstations’. According to the gScreen corporate blog, these ‘workstations’ are products which are being built according to the specifications of the US Navy, which are intended for use in ‘extreme environments’.
Aside from the dual displays, these souped-up laptops will come with an Intel CORE 2 Quad QX9300 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500 GB hard drive, and the standard MIL-STD 810F ruggedisation. SEAL specifications also include dual GeForce 8600M graphics cards, Blu-Ray drive, Gigabit networking, WiFi and Bluetooth. The SEALs do not opt for Vista, though. All the laptops will come with Windows XP Pro.
